A Letter To The Metaphysics Of July 4th

Dear July 4th,

I love your metaphysical significance.

As a nation, we celebrate the day we declared independence rather than the day when we actually won it. We held truths to be self-evident on July 4, 1776 but the Treaty of Paris wasn’t signed with England until September 3, 1783.

It’s as if freedom was fulfilled by just putting it in writing and the war was a necessary evil to see it come to fruition. Huge life lesson here about the power of intention.

By the dawn’s early light,

“In Live Like a Fruit Fly, Gabe Berman shares his recipe for living a more joyful, worthwhile, and abundant life in every way. A witty, entertaining, and insightful read.” ~Deepak Chopra

  1. In a sense the intent is everything because Freedom isn’t a result, if it were we would never reach it. Freedom, and liberty, they are a careful understanding, a careful evolution of the spirit and the soul, the heart and the mind that never ceases to grow even as we continue to grow. In that sense it is more than anything that could be put in writing, more than anything that could be secured by a treaty, even as these secured it’s safe refuge on America’s shores, it had to be commended to posterity so that it could be strengthened by each hand the torch of it’s “Sacred Fire” was passed down to. That’s not only the beauty of it but the deeper challenge of it as it pushes us to not only to think and to be, but to find more, to abide in faith and hope that though we may not hold all the answers today, by each passing generation we come closer to finding them as we teach our children to transcend our own limited comprehension and view of the world around them, to push past boundaries until there are no limitations to them.

The American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, all of it testified to an idea that there was, that there is, and there shall remain a brilliance to humanity that will ever abide in the vigilant and the hopeful, reaching for further shores in the boundless potential that is strengthened by the intent of the heart to face the frontiers of the soul in courage and love.
